Museums for children

The museums of Jämsä region offer exciting and wonderful experiences for children. It is definitely worthwhile taking children to see the Helminauha Toy Museum or the visit the idyllic local museums. What kinds of toys were played with in the past? And how would it have been to live in a chimneyless hut and to sleep on a bench by the stove? Of the various local museums, we recommend the Moomin Museum in Tampere, the Amur Museum of Worker’s Housing, the Art Town in Mänttä and the Serlachius museums.

Aviation Museums

The region of Jämsä is home to two aviation museums: the Hallinportti Aviation Museum and the Veljesten Wanha Konttori. At these museums, you can learn more about aircraft, aviation history, and the development of Finland’s aircraft industry. Hallinportti Aviation Museum is a museum specialised in aviation technology and is part of the War Museum. The Veljesten Wanha Konttori, on the other hand, operates as a location for aircraft factory exhibitions. As well as the exhibitions, you can also take a look at the aerial photo archive. Toy Museum

A magnificent landscaped model railway, thousands of toys and other articles – come take a nostalgic journey in the land of toys! Toy Museum Helminauha has some 5,000 toys on display in a collection that includes toys from the 20th century all the way to the present day. The museum has antique objects and toys, with which Finnish have played as well as a stage and costumes for role-playing.

Pälämäki Local Museum

Pälämäki Local Museum tells the fascinating tale of life as a crofter in Jämsä of the 18th and 19th century. All the buildings were moved to Pälämäki at the beginning of the 1960s from all over the Suur-Jämsä region. Visit Pälämäki to see how Jämsä’s crofters made a living for themselves.

Aarresaari Local Museum

The buildings of Aarresaari will take you on a trip back in time, visiting the history of the region from the 16th century all the way up to the early decades of the 20th century. The buildings and the artefacts exhibited in them present the history of traditional farming and beginning of the Industrial Age. Head out on a voyage of discovery at Aarresaari!

Kuorevesi Local Museum

The Kuorevesi Local Museum is beautifully situated on the shore of Lake Kuorevesi. The museum presents the life and artefacts of farm life in the 19th and early 20th century. Come admire the idyllic homestead museum and its treasures from the past.
