Hirvelän talkkuna

 

 

Jämsän sydän logoTalkkuna flour has been made since 1966, using oats grown on the Hirvelä Farm. The talkkuna is made from proven organic, gluten-free oats, which is suitable for celiacs. In addition to the finer, oven-roasted talkkuna, the farm also produces a coarser ‘puurotalkkuna’. Talkkuna can be used in a wide variety of ways, such as the traditional snack of talkkuna with berries and dairy products, not to mention in baking and general cooking.

The making of Hirvelä talkkuna starts with the planting of oats. When the crop is harvested, the oat grains are sorted, steam cooked for approximately 8 hours and then dried in an oven for roughly 20 hours. The cooked and dried grains are then stone-ground into a flour and packed in bags for sale.

Talkkuna should be stored in a dry place protected from light. It keeps best in, for example, a covered glass or tin container.

Uunitalkkuna is sold in Prisma stores, large S-market stores, many Citymarket locations, K-Supermarket stores and K-market stores. KauraKuitu is sold in Prisma stores, large S-market stores, many Citymarket locations and K-Supermarket stores. Coarse Uunitalkkuna is available in Jyväskylä and Jämsä.
